Iraq to resume flights to Europe this month
The Iraqi government told parliament on Tuesday that commercial passenger flights to Europe would resume this month, 15 years after U.N. sanctions isolated the country under Saddam Hussein.
Do you see it? Do you see the light at the end of the tunnel?

Yes, I do see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I also see the safe bird -- Iraqi Airways nickname -- flying again.
That's great news, Ahmad!!
Iraqi Airways... its been a while.
Great news.
Will these flights be out of Basra or Baghdad?
Hey Louise, want to go to Baghdad with me?!!!!!! I wanna go, I wanna go!!! (:
(It would be such a thrill to me to go to Iraq after all the years of reading and thinking and hoping for Iraq!)
Thanks Ahmad!
Mark, I believe these flights will leave from Baghdad; but I might be wrong.
Sure Annie!! Not in the summer tho. Too hot. I'd love to see all that history.
That would really be awesome!
Oh, and can we stop in London and see Ahmad? (:
Oh, Ahmad can we stop in London and see you? (:
Maybe those aren't in the appropriate order there....
Of course you can, that would be great. :)
Mark, Ahmed,
Yes, the flights from Basra to Baghdad will resume very soon. It will cost something like $180 for a return ticket.
It's worth it when you don't have to take the long drive between the two cities.
Wow, this is great news. I just like to know why insurgents don't target the planes, or maybe they do?
How come there hasn't been Hijackings etc?
If there hasn't then this somewhat proves that Iraq is on the right track.
God Bless Iraq
Ryan,
The security in and around the airport is very tight. Therefore, there hasn't been any hijacking, to my knowledge.
Also, the way the planes land and take off makes it even harder to target by missiles; they land and take off in a spiral way.
Thanks for the info, let me just say you're doing a good job on this blog, its surprising you've not gone to the BBC or Media about this to counter the usual perception of the country, ever had any offers? and if so, would you do it?
Very cool!
thinker
Ahmad,
Can you be my travel guide? Let me know of all the good spa's in London and in Bagdad :)
Dcat,
Sure I can ;)
Ryan,
No. No offers; but yes I would do it. Anything for Iraq and to get more support of the world ;)
