Um...WOW!
When I was a kid I got sand kicked in my eyes at a playground....I didn't blink apparently... So these pictures look like a nightmare to me! OUCH!
I got the same pictures in an email but I thought they were fabricated...we do get sandstorms in Iraq but are they ever like this?
Just like in the movie...The Mummy!
That is increbile. Thanks for sharing.
I am stationed at Camp Taji in Iraq. I watched this sandstorm roll in and engulf me. It was quite incredible.. and quite REAL. People have said photos of this sandstorm were fabricated... I assure you they were not. The wall was about 500-800 ft high. I was frantically trying to get covers on my aircraft when it got dark suddenly, I looked up and watched as the top of the cloud went over my head 500 ft or so above me... then I couldnt see anything at all. 3 minutes elapsed from the moment I saw it on the horizon to the moment it hit. The sandy portion of the storm lasted 20 minutes or so... then it cleared up but reamained windy for the rest of the day. I beleive the weather phenomena that sparks this kind of sandstorm is called a Macro-burst. A huge column of cold air that descends rapidly from higher altitudes and disperses on the ground causing high windshear over a vast area, sometimes thousands of miles wide. In this environment, with all the sand... what was seen is to be expected.
My boyfriend is over there right now. He told me about these freak sandstorms and how you couldn't see thing. I'm thinking hes exaggerating something out of a movie...then i saw this...poor baby!! I bet he did have sand in his ass for three days.
I believe this is video from the same camp. Not like the Mummy, well, it only moves like one.
