Barbers being targeted by fundamentalists

I heard yesterday that barbers are being targeted by fundamentalists. I was shocked. So, today I decided to look it up and I found an Arabic article that confirmed it.

In southern Baghdad fundamentalists are warning barbers for the sins of shaving beards and cutting hair in a western fashion! So far 12 barbers have been killed by fundamentalists. Therefore, barbers are refusing to shave beards and cut hair in such style, and are placing banners on the windows of their shops to indicate that.

Women wore hijab to cover their hair because they were afraid of these crazy fundamentalists. Churches and Christians were targeted, as well as alcohol stores! And now barbers seems to be the target! And for what? Shaving? Looking clean? Looking good? Since when shaving and cutting hair is a sin? Where does it say in Islam that you shouldn't shave or cut your hair?

This is outrageous! Who the hell these fundamentalists think they are? Is this the "Jihad" or the "resistance" they want people to believe in? Or is this the type of theocracy they want people to vote for? Either way, Iraqis will never accept it. Iraq has always been - and will always be - a secular country. They are disgrace to their families, clans and religion. There is no place in heaven for these murderers, but there will be a big nice lounge for them in hell.
"Whoever kills a human being unjustly is as if he had killed all of humankind; and whoever saves a human being is as if he saved all humankind" Al Quran, Surah al Ma'idah, Ayah 32.
It is time to stop all this nonsense.

My friend, this is exactly what the fundamentalist beasts did in my country, Iran, when they came to power with the revolution in 79. They started throwing acid on any woman who didn't wear the hejab. They destroyed alcohol stores and barber's shops and women's hair salons. They forbade ties and polo shirts and a clean-shaven look quickly became a definite disadvantage if you had anything to do in a government office. You people must stand up and fight these beasts back. Don't let your country become like Iran. We Iranians have been suffering hell for 26 years and we just don't know how to get out of it. Everyone hopes that Bush will stand by his word and support the democratic movement in Iran. But then a lot of Iranians are disheartened because they see gangs of Euro-trash politicians come to the court of the ayatollahs, kiss their ass, pat them on the back, sign a huge trade agreement and then go back home and bark against America. Europe is a disgrace and we Middle Easterners won't ever forget the way they've betrayed our aspirations. Well, at least the "normal" people won't. I'm sure our dictators and terrorists love the European Union and those useful idiots who think that peace can come if you do a dance around the peace flags and let a couple of baloons into the air.

Anon,

I know excatly what you mean. I hope the Iraq will be stable, secure, free and democratic; and then I hope that America can help all the countries in the ME to acheive freedom and democracy.

For us to live in peace and democracy, our neighbours must have peace and democracy as well. This is the way to achieve stability in the Middle East.

All the Liberals (in Europe, USA, Canada, etc.) are living in denial and they are unrealistic. They don't realise what's going on in the world, or maybe they do but then either they don't believe it or believe in some unrealistic solutions.

Someone should tell them that long hair spreads pheromones, and in the west is a possible indication of latent transvestism. LOL

Anyway, I hope they have overplayed their hand. I am disgusted with the tolerance of the British troops for the depredations of these fundie gangs in the name of "local collaboration". The peace they achieve with it is the peace of the dead and near-dead.
